Important Messages
Sign up for the children's summer reading program (entering grades kindergarten through 5) starts on June 16 and ends on July 18, so that children can meet the minimum four weeks of participation to earn a certificate and cool prizes at the end of the program. The program is eight weeks long (starting June 23, ending August 7). Kids sign up using this page or by coming in to the library.
To participate kids and parents decide on a weekly reading goal. Then kids can read books, magazines, comic books, graphic novels, picture books, cereal boxes...books on tape or CD count, too! (TV, videos, DVDs and movies DO NOT count.) Kids can keep track on the computer, or they can use a paper tracking sheet available at the library. Each week your child meets his or her reading goal, he or she can choose a museum pass from about 25 available!
In addition, the Woburn Public Library is sponsoring Heifer International’s “Read to Feed” program. For each hour a student reads, he or she will earn a ticket to vote for the animals that will be purchased to help impoverished families around the world improve their lives. At the end of the summer, the hours that the children have read will buy chickens, ducks, honeybees, goats, sheep, and other animals.
There are also lots of activities at the library, and kids don't need to sign up for them--they can come by and enjoy them as their summer schedules permit. Please see our calendar for more information.
